Abstract: A co-rotating twin screw extruder with a loaded ultrasonic generator was used for ultrasonic
desulfurization of 40 mesh waste tire rubber powder (GTR). The gel content, rheological properties,
vulcanization properties and mechanical properties of desulfurized GTR (DGTR) vulcanizates without ultrasonic
and with different ultrasonic amplitudes were compared. The results indicate that, the gel content, viscosity
and storage modulus of DGTR obtained under the action of ultrasonic amplitude of 13 um are the lowest,
indicating that the number of crosslinked bonds broken is the largest and the degree of desulfurization is the
highest under this condition. The desulfurization degree of DGTR obtained under the action of 8 um ultrasonic
amplitude is the lowest, but the tensile strength and elongation at break of its vulcanizate are the highest at
the same amount of vulcanizing agent, with 8.26 MPa and 192%, respectively.
