Research on laser cladding process on the surface of screw element for
extruder pelletizer

Abstract: In this paper, the laser cladding process is used to clad two new cladding materials of Cr18
series with 5~6 mm on 38ClMoAl substrate, and the organization and morphology of the cladding metals
were analyzed and the changes of their wear resistance and hardness were determined. The size of the
deformation during the repair process of the laser cladding process was determined by comparing the size of
the inner hole splines before and after the repair of the original screw. The results show that the fusion cladding
metal is well combined with the matrix, mainly dominated by dendritic martensite, with hard carbides diffusely
distributed between the dendrites. A fine heat-affected zone was formed between the cladding layer and
the substrate, and the melt grew rapidly along the direction of maximum heat dissipation perpendicular to the
interface, forming cytosolic crystals and dendritic crystals with obvious upward growth. The average hardness

of 1 molten metal is 50~52HRC, and the average hardness of 2 molten metal is between 54~57HRC. Through

the wear comparison, it can be seen that the two kinds of cladding metal wear weight loss is 68% and 36% of
45 hardened steel respectively. Detecting and comparing the dimensions of the screw element before and
#
after repair, the dimensional deformation of the parts after laser repair is within 0.12 mm on average, which
meets the repair requirements.
