Study on the thermal properties and surface structure of two kinds of
bio-based plastic tableware

Abstract: The heat resistance of bio-based plastics was studied by simulating daily use scenarios for two
tableware made of bio-based plastics (PLA+bamboo powder, PP+corn starch). After heating in microwave
and 4% acetic acid food simulants, the mechanical properties of the materials and the changes in the total
migration of chemicals in the materials were observed. At the same time, the surface properties and structures
of bamboo powder particles, corn starch particles, PLA+bamboo powder mixed plastics, and PP+corn starch
mixed plastics were observed by scanning electron microscope. At the same time, the influence of different
bio-based particles on the material, and the relationship between the thermal stability of the material and
the surface structure of the material were analyzed. Based on the results of the study, the safety risks of two
bio-based materials for making tableware were evaluated and recommendations were made for everyday
household use conditions.
