Kinetic/thermodynamic study on adsorption of europium (III) by

Abstract: Carboxyl-containing carbon microspheres (HC-AA) were synthesized from glucose and acrylic
acid by one-step hydrothermal method. Their structures and surface functional groups were characterized
by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The adsorption properties of HC
and HC-AA on Europium (III) were also studied. The effects of initial pH value, oscillation time, initial solubility
and temperature of Europium (III) solution on their adsorption of Europium (III) were discussed. Langmuir and
Freundlich adsorption isotherm models were used to study the adsorption equilibrium data of Europium (III) on
two kinds of carbon; The Quasi-First-Order and quasi-second-order dynamic models were used to study their
dynamic characteristics. Thermodynamic results showed that the adsorption of Europium (III) by HC and HC-
AA were both endothermic and spontaneous.
