Ultrasonic spot welding technology for plastics

Abstract: Ultrasound spot welding is a method of assembling two thermoplastic workpieces without
forming holes or energy conducting ribs at local locations. Ultrasound spot welding produces strong structural
welds, which are suitable for large parts, thermoplastic extrusion or casting plates, thermoplastic corrugated
plates and workpieces with complex geometry and difficult to approach the joint surface. In this paper, the
principle and mechanism of ultrasonic spot welding, adaptability, variants, process parameters, equipment
requirements, characteristics and applications are discussed.
