Study on esterification synthesis and flame retardancy of
phosphate-containing acrylate

Abstract: The UV-curable phosphorus-containing acrylate monomer is a phosphorus-containing acrylate
monomer with flame retardancy and photocuring activity. It is formed by esterification of a cyclic phosphoric
anhydride (2-methyl-2, 5-dioxo-1, 2-oxophosphate heterocyclic pentane, OP) and a hydroxyl group-
containing acrylate monomer. In this paper, the effects of temperature, catalyst, feed ratio and reaction
time on the conversion rate were discussed. The experiment proved that the optimum reaction temperature
was 110 °C, the optimum catalyst was PK208LH with a dosage of 20 g/mol, the mass ratio of OP and hydroxyl-
propyl acrylate was 1:1.2, and the optimum reaction time was 5 h. Under this reaction condition, the yield of
the reaction product was the highest, reaching 98.12%. Moreover, after the mixture of phosphorus-containing
acrylate and urethane acrylate 6170 was carried out, the flame retardancy is measured through the vertical
combustion experiment. It was found that when the content of phosphorus-containing acrylate is greater
than 63.33%, the flame retardant grade was V-0.
